Choosing the right Ping Pong is one of the toughest jobs for any beginner or novice player. In the following segment, I’ll be covering two of the most asked questions from newbies – “How Big is a Ping Pong Ball?” & “What is the perfect Ping Pong Ball dimension?”.

So let’s get started.

There are two types of Ping Pong Balls:

Training Balls

These balls are very cheap & weak – people buy them in bulk, 100 to 200 shots at a time. These are called training balls, and the ITTF doesn’t certify them.

Tournament Balls: Three Star Balls

Tournament balls are costly – and they have to be perfect & sturdy to gain ITTF certification. Choosing the right tournament ball is a hard task for a beginner. If you’re one of them – check out the next segment, I’ll be explaining a simple two-step formula to choose the right Ping Pong Ball.

How To Choose The Right Ping Pong Ball

As I stated earlier, training balls don’t need any check-up as they are cheap and weak by default. But you have to check your tournament balls even if they are from well-named brands like Butterfly, Andro, Joola, Cornilleau, Donic, Sponeta, and Stiga. These two steps will help you choose the best Ping Pong Balls:

  • Step 1 Check Sturdiness: Try to press the ball as hard as you can. Suppose you can’t push the ball – congratulations! Your Ping Pong Ball passed the first testing criteria.
  • Step 2 Check Roundness: Check the ball if it is perfectly round. Spin the ball in a table – and look closely. If it seems the ball is perfectly round, then this ball is ready for any tournament. If you’re still finding difficulty choosing the right ball for you, then consider buying one of these balls – Butterfly G40+ (White), Pro Spin Ping Pong Balls( White), MAPOL (Orange).
